Five Questions for Sewa Ojutiku, Impact Investment Analyst
What does it take to support visionary entrepreneurs who are reshaping industries for a better future? At DOEN Ventures, we believe it starts with sharp minds, a strong sense of mission, and a deep understanding of what meaningful innovation looks like.
That’s why we’re excited to welcome Sewa to our team as our new Impact Investment Analyst. With her analytical expertise and passion for impact, she helps us identify and support our partners who combine social and environmental value with entrepreneurial ambition.
We asked Sewa five questions about her journey, her first impressions, and what inspires her most in the world of impact investing.
1. What motivated you to join DOEN Ventures as an Impact Investment Analyst?
I noticed that DOEN Ventures is one of the few impact investors with the genuine capacity to prioritise impact above all else. This is what made them stand out to me. The commitment to sustainable impact, paired with patient capital and a team that shares a long-term vision, resonated with me. During my interviews, it was clear that DOEN Ventures embraces the belief that impact and returns are not mutually exclusive, which I agree with. Next to this, I was also drawn to the unique collaboration with Stichting DOEN and the Dutch Poscode Lottery, making it possible to support transitions and add value for entrepreneurs over a longer period to bring about systemic change.
2. What has surprised or inspired you most since starting at DOEN Ventures?
What I find especially meaningful is the emphasis placed on open dialogue within DOEN Ventures. Conversations, whether idea sharing or casual discussions, play a vital role in how the team collaborates. Communication is encouraged and it’s important to how DOEN Ventures operates and grows together. It encourages me to dive into my role more.
3. How do you see the role of data and analysis in driving impact within early-stage ventures?
I enjoy the research and interactive aspects of the role, especially the opportunity to talk with startups and explore new topics. The more I research the more I love diving into DOEN Venture’s focus of the regenerative economy, because it’s a very exciting space and I’m able to challenge assumptions and explore the finer elements.
4. Can you share a moment or project where you felt that you were working in a place where you make a difference?
Even though I’m still relatively new and some projects are just getting off the ground, I’ve already seen how committed DOEN Ventures is to driving real impactful change. I’ve had the chance to explore areas like seaweed cultivation and the blue economy, topics that were new to me but incredibly exciting given the potential impacts. What I really appreciate is being able to share my perspective with the deal team. There’s a strong ‘speak your mind’ culture here, where everyone’s input is genuinely valued when making decisions.
5. What kind of impact innovations or trends excite you most right now and why?
I’m driven by two key areas I’d love to explore further: impactful technologies and B2C innovations. Nowadays, technology is integrated everywhere. While it can be misused in ways that harm the planet, it also has immense regenerative potential. As for B2C impact, I believe that relatable, consumer-facing innovations can thrive. As a consumer myself, I recognize how personal motivation plays a crucial role in driving sustainable choices, when people relate to an innovation, they’re more likely to embrace and act on it.
